Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need - Hebrews 4:16

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

Last week, Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Public Health, in response to the growing concern with the coronavirus (COVID-19), declared a state of emergency for all of Alabama. Beginning March 18, all public schools will suspend classes until Monday, April 6.

Please join me in offering continued prayers for the health and safety of everyone afflicted with this highly contagious illness.

Our Holy Archdiocese has previously addressed the necessary safety measures that our Churches should follow. If you are not familiar with these guidelines, please follow this link to read the initial message from our Archdiocese. Please follow this link to read the latest update.

Beginning, March 15, we are adopting these protocols for our Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and are asking everyone NOT to attend Church services for the next few weeks. We will be live streaming all of our Liturgical services on our Facebook page beginning Monday, March 16. Our Parish Council president, Dr. Dimitris Kyriazis, will be monitoring all of the latest medical and scientific information regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). Once our Archdiocese and medical advisors feel it is safe to gather together for worship, we will let everyone know.

In addition, we are suspending all ministry activities, as well as fellowship and social gatherings until further notice. These include Sunday School and all religious education classes, Greek School, and all ministry gatherings. Additionally, we will not be hosting coffee hour or luncheons during this time.

For the Feastday of the Annunciation, we will be livestreaming services. Great Vespers will be broadcast on our Facebook page on Tuesday, March 24, at 5:30 pm, and the Divine Liturgy for the Annunciation will be broadcast at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 25 (Orthros beginning at 9:00 am).

I am very grateful to the Parish Council and ministry leaders of our community for doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our parishioners. May our Lord continue to bless us, protect us, and guide each and every day.

With love in Christ,

+Fr. Matthew Carter
